Core Faculty and Staff

The George Washington University's Data Science Faculty is composed of top-notch scholars who have done cutting-edge research in their academic fields, and continue to do so while teaching at GW. As a result of a collaborative effort between multiple departments, the Data Science Master’s program is composed of faculty members from different academic backgrounds, including finance, political science, statistics, computer science, physics, mathematics and more.

Program Administration

Dr. Eric Lawrence Dr. Eric Lawrence is the Interim Director of the GW Data Science Program and an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science. His research focuses on American politics, legislative politics, and public policy, and has been supported by a Brookings Research Fellowship and the National Science Foundation. His work has appeared in the American Journal of Political ScienceJournal of PoliticsPerspectives on PoliticsLegislative Studies QuarterlyAmerican Politics ResearchJournal of Experimental Political Science and elsewhere. He teaches undergraduate and doctoral courses on American politics, public policy, and research methods. 

photo of Dr. Brian Wright

Dr. Brian Wright serves as the Director of Outreach and Operations of the Data Science Master’s program. Previously, Brian has worked as Department of Defense employee, as a Subject Matter Expert at SAIC and managed a research institute inside the School of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He holds a BS in Economics, Master’s in Public Administration and is a PhD in Higher Education Administration. His research efforts are focused on using educational data to improve student outcomes and inform higher education administrative functions. 

Professor Yuxiao Huang Yuxiao Huang is an Assistant Professor of the GW Data Science program. His research interest is Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, with a focus on the applications to Healthcare. Prior to joining GW, he was a Visiting Lecturer at Rochester Institute of Technology and a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Stevens Institute of Technology. He earned a BS, MS, and PhD in Computer Science from Jilin University.
