Dual Degrees

Dual degrees allow students to combine multiple academic interests while earning more than one degree. The Data Science Program partners with several academic departments to offer both a dual BS/MS degree and an MS in Data Science/Certificate in Geographical Information Systems.

Students in both programs choose from a variety of elective and core courses and can take advantage of internships with organizations in many areas, including health sciences, geography, cybersecurity and public policy.

Students interested in a dual degree program should confer with a graduate advisor early in their junior year. 

 


BS/MS Degree in Data Science

Students may pursue a Bachelor of Science in an approved Columbian College program and Master of Science in Data Science dual degree. The combined degree covers the basics of data and problem solving, and demonstrates how to apply that knowledge to workplace scenarios.

The BS/MS program allows students to take up to 7.5 graduate credits as part of their undergraduate program, thereby completing the master’s degree on an accelerated track. Students complete elective coursework and can take advantage of internships with organizations in a variety of areas, including health sciences, geography, cybersecurity and public policy.

In addition to all requirements for the MS in Data Science, all requirements for the chosen Columbian College undergraduate degree must be fulfilled.

MS Degree in Data Science/Certificate in GIS

The Data Science Program and the Department of Geography work in conjunction to offer a dual Master of Science in Data Science and Graduate Certificate in Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

The graduate certificate program helps students acquire the knowledge and skills to move directly from the classroom into the workplace as environmental scientists, civil engineers and public health officials in the public and private sectors.

The curriculum guides students through all aspects of GIS theory and practice, from the science of cartography to database design and geospatial modeling. 

In addition to all requirements for the MS in Data Science, all requirements for the GIS certificate must be fulfilled.
